Can anyone explain the Snell ratings for the helmets or give me a link to learn about it? And what are the current requirements? Thanks in advance!

Autocross/Rallycross = M Rated (Motorcycle)
Time Trial/Club Racing = SA Rated (Special Application, i.e. Racing) -more impact resistance (roll bar contact test) -more fire resistant (nomex liner) -smaller eyeport
Snell updates their ratings every 5 years.
SCCA requires that helmets be within 10 years of the current spec, so, right now M00/SA00 and M05/SA05 are both still good.
<Sell out-of-date SA rated helmets to the dirt track guys, they're required to have a SA rated helmet, but their date restrictions aren't as stringent>
DOT-rated is not SNELL-rated and is not legal for SCCA use.

My buddy found one at Dothan Powersports he was thinking about buying. Can you tell me if it is Okay. It is the CL-15 by HJC. It says it is rated Snell M2005. So I guess that would work for autocross right?

That is ok:
However, since the 2010 rating is out you will be loosing 5 years of use.

Is there somewhere you can get a SA2010 helmet? I have found some SA2005 helmets for less than $150 but I can't find any SA2010 helmets. Do you have loaner helmets till we get what we need?

Yea there are loaner helmets.
I looked online for a 2010 Snell rating and couldn't find one ether. The standard was released back in Oct 09 so I would think the '10 would be out soon. (I could be wrong though :/ )

I did a little research and found out that the new SA2010 rating will not be in effect till at least October this year so it might be longer than that before any are available. I have looked everywhere and can't find a SA2010. I think I am going to get a SA2005 open faced helmet later this summer and that way by the time it is outdated in 2015 I'll be able to afford the helmet I really want.
