The time has come to put another set of tires on my spare wheels. The V710's that are on them not are no good (Jeff felt them when he drove my car). I had my mind set on used Hoosiers from this site, www.johnbtires.com/ . This is the cheapest option at about $600. My other option is to use street tires and stay in the street tire class. This would also help me to improve my driving ability since race tires cover up a lot of mistakes. My options for street tires are Kuhmo Ecsta XS's ($1148) and Nitto NT05's ($852). I don't know much about the NT05's and was hoping someone on here could help me out. Now the big question, which option would be the best bang for buck? Used Hoosiers ($600), XS's ($1148) or NT05's ($852). Keep in mind that these will only be used for autocross on my other wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am open to other tire options as well.

Have you looked at the Hankook RS-3? I know a lot of people out there are using them.

Unfortunately the RS-3's do not come in the size I need. I should have specified sizes that I can use on stock wheels. I can use the following sizes for the front: 265/40/17, 275/40/17, 295/40/17, and 295/35/17. For the rear I can use these sizes: 295/35/18, 305/35/18, 315/35/18, and 315/30/18. I would like to keep the rear as close to stock proportion as possible.

The XS's were pretty damn good. They didn't seem to be bothered by the heat either. But, I only got 6 autoxs out of them. Now I was only running 205 wide tires and I feel that is a bit undersized for the weight of the car, and I don't have enough rear camber. The outside edge of the rears went first.
600 bones for Hoosiers might be worth it. But, that depends on how many events you can get out of them. If it is less than 3 that will be pretty expensive too.
$852 seems pretty damn good for a set of tires. I guess it boils down to how serious you want to be.

I'm in it to improve my driving. The $600 Hoosiers claim to have 75% tread remaining and I already have two fronts that Dan Brown gave me. Six events seems low, but I got about the same use on RT-615's on my S2000 with daily driving. I would be extremely disappointed if I spent that much on them to get so little use, especially being strictly used for autocross. Have you heard anything about the NT05's?

call john berget at 262-740-0180. his website is www.jbracingtires.net/ but call as it is pretty much useless... I was getting full sets of 295/30-18's shipped to my house for under $400 of hoosier A6's with about half the life left. i tried contacting johnbtires a few months ago even entered an order on their website and never got anything or heard back from them...

I've called John Berget multiple times and he doesn't have the sizes I need yet. He is supposed to call me when he gets them in. Im getting impatient. Haha.

The biggest consideration you should have with used tires is heat cycles, R comps can be cycled out with 80% tread left however that would not be the norm.
From what I have read on A6's around 50 % tread and ussually they are cycled out. Normal cycles according to various reviews and forum threads is around 22 to 25 cycles then they fall off hard.
Now I have never owned hoosiers, but it was all the research I did that lead me to not even buy the new ones let alone takeoffs.
Now if your getting them and you trust the seller on the meathod of the first heat cycle and the amount they claim is on the tires then go for it. Just remember very few people even break even racing let alone proffit so anyone can and will take atvantage of the underfunded and the inexperianced.
Hankook Ventis Z214 R comps are a solid performer@ about 60-70 % the price of hoosiers. A6's are faster but not very much. I say try the Hankooks.

hankook Ventis z 214 at tire rack 275/40ZR17 $235.00 each 275/35ZR18 $235.00 each thats 940.00 for the set brand new they can do the first heat cycle for you at 15 bucks a tire shipping not included. From what I read they will do between 35 and 42 honest heat cycles.
and yes I see that the rears are a little skinny for you, but you can easily get them to pop on. the question is are you running at the nationals or just concentrating on the local events

For now I'm just going to focus on the local events. I don't think I'm ready to compete at a national event yet. I'll look into those tires as well. I'm leaning toward street tires at this point though. How long do you think 315/30/18 and 295/35/17 XS's would last just being used as autocross tires?

falken azenis rt-615k might be another option for you.
Properly aligned corvettes are supposed to be good on tires. Might want to call Sam Strano. He's one of the best drivers and supports the sport with parts and advice, especially with the big v8 powered cars.

I think the Kuhmo XS's are suppose to be better than the 615k's. i would run the XS before the NT05. unless you wanted the NT05R!!!

Not sure if this will interest you, but I have another option. I still have my old 17x11 wheels with Hoosier As on them as well as an extra set of V710 315R17 T1 scrubs with 5 heat cycles. The Hoosiers A are about done, but it might be worth an event to see if they have any life. I have been holding on to them thinking I will get another vette, but I don't think I will. The V710s should get you at least 6-7 months, and scrubs are plentiful on the corvette forum. Since you are only looking to practice, it doesn't matter what class it lands you in. You can save your other set of wheels for bigger events and fresh tires for if you ever have that itch for Nationals.
Black GS 17x11 wheels with Hoosiers $400 Kumho V710 315 $300

Will those rims fit an 03 cobra five lug, or are they just different enough to prohibit that.
