I would like to get a thread going for miata owners specifically for NB chassis, to discuss alignment settings and other upgrades. for instance CJ what kit did you get for your suspension, what settings are you using on it now. what tires are good for miatas and other stuff.

I was using Falken rt 615 k tires .really good side grip form these tires with around 36psi but the braking grip was not as good with sudden lockup. lots of flat spots and they wore unusually fast in my opinion for a 180 tread wear rating, three months daily driving and 65 total runs on our course, not all of which were really aggressive. now i am using NT01s and they have more lateral grip and i have not experienced any lock up problems with this set. they wear pretty fast got 42 runs on our concrete before i corded one and all were very aggressive runs. now i am up to 58 runs after flipping them and they have generally even wear side to side very good grip for a treaded tire, and our course is very abrasive. i did not notice any significant wear in daily driving to and from work. also too much heat did not seem to affect them.

I'm using Xida CS with 700F/400R spring rates. They have 12 adjustment setting that change rebound and compression together. I'm still playing with the setting but I like the feel of the fronts being 4 clicks higher than the rears. I ended up with 10F/6R for this event. For sway bars I use 1.125" Racing Beat hollow bar and no rear bar. As for tire pressures, I've always kept the front tires about 2 psi higher than the rears. I usually run 30F/28R and just play around from there. I haven't had an alignment since I put the new suspension in. My old alignment was around -1.5F/-2R camber, 1/16th toe out front and 0 toe in the rear, and as much caster as possible.

Is the lack of a rear bar what keeps you from stepping it out in the rear, I notice your not sideways much at all. How do you like the nt01's

Yes, having no rear bar adds more grip in rear. It feels more neutral to me without one. I had a lot of oversteer at the beginning of the last race but that was mostly because the rear tires weren't warmed up and my pressures were off. This is my first set of R-compounds and I must say I really like the NT-01's. They are an entry level R-compound with a 100 treadwear but I was definitely impressed with the nice step up in grip compared to the RT-615's and Kumho XS's. They also last a pretty good time. I can't imagine the amount of grip A6's and V710's make at the cost of 40 treadwear.

Although it is a different platform, the S2000 is pretty similar as far as what it likes suspension wise... I too run no rear bar and love it... SOOOO much more rear grip assuming you have enough rear spring to prevent understeer.

225 is going to be too wide for a 5.5 or 6" wheel. You would be much better off running a 195 or, at widest, a 205. The narrower tires will be significantly lighter, cheaper, and a higher percentage of the contact patch will actually be on the ground. As for the bilsteins, Shaikh (FCM) is only rebuilding the HDs now, and in limited numbers, for $150 each. I think Bilstein will rebuild them for $65ea plus the cost of any worn parts they have to replace. The other big name is Bernie at Stewart Development. The latter has had some customer service issues lately, and I'm not sure on the price, but I seem to remember it being about 140ea. If you're going to stay with stock springs, I'd go with Koni Sports ("yellows") for the same or less money with some adjustability. For 2-3x stiffer springs, Tokico Illuminas are a little better (but currently no delivery date from Japan after the earthquake/tsunami). My car: FM sway bars, front on full stiff and rear on full soft. Stock springs, weak stock shocks, and disintegrated bump stops. Dunlop Star Specs in 205/15 on the stock wheels. Caster: +5.5 Camber: -1*F/-1.9*R Toe: 1/8"out F / 1/8"in R. GoodWin Racing midpipe/cat & exhaust. Despite the goofy setup, the car is pretty neutral right now, and the bars, tires, and alignment were good for 3 seconds at the last autox (versus the usual crowd). I've been doing lots of maintenance lately, mostly preventative, some not. Yesterday, I replaced the timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, tensioner spring & pulley, idler pulley, valve cover gasket, and coolant hoses, and changed the oil. Earlier this week, I also flushed/bled the brakes and replaced my cracked radiator with a Koyo direct-replacement from Parts Group. I still need to change out the fuel filter, flush the clutch fluid, and change the gear & diff oil. I have CJ's old 1st gen FM springs sitting in the garage, along with FCM bump stops and shock boots. I'm waiting on the Tokico Illuminas I backordered with Flyin Miata and camber bolts to get here now. After that goes on and I get a proper alignment, my "good enough" STR setup will be done.

Installed the fm1 springs, fcm bumps, and illuminas. The ride is MUCH better than stock, and handling is great so far. Going back to stock rear bar before next weekend. New alignment specs: front caster +5.0 camber -1.8 toe 1/16" out per side rear camber -2.0 toe 1/16" in per side. Need to flip the tires. Can't wait for the 12th!

where did you get the alignment done at. I ended up going back to Jim Whaley in Enterprise, and they did a good job. I wanted to give Dack's a shot, but they couldn't get me in soon enough.
