Here is the skinny on my C51 Hankook Ventus R comps. Size is 205-55-R14 paid 131 a piece shipped from Discounttiredirect.com
first impressions August event was my first on the set and the first run was up to speed right out of the box. I did drive on them to the event so i scuffed them prior to first run. they didn't grip well till scuffed. good grip over Nitto NT01s and much more stable temps than any tire i have ran. pretty much because i drove to the events 20 mins one way i checked hot temps before the first runs and never had more than 2 psi rise all day. thats with dual drivers in the August heat.
grip= best i have experienced. great braking, lateral was top notch. not sure about acceleration being that i drive an anemic miata.
wear= so far pretty even. a little scalloping on the outside shoulder after 45 runs on our concrete
heat cycles=i started to notice a little slip at the november event but they are not heat cycled out yet ( correction they were heat cycled out at this point) but i can feel a difference. so good for 33 or so runs and i also drove it around to work 9 times before november so i would imagine you would get 10 to 20 more if you only used them for auto x and didnt drive on them any other time.
feed back is low on audio but very high on feel. even though i have substantial sidewall it was very stiff. everything is transmitted through to the steering wheel.
conclusion for the price i don't think you can beat them. i have not tried the c71 or c91 yet and i don't intend to. these tires just highlighted my suspension shortcomings so i have work to do else where( hell i destroyed three separate bushings in the rear end due to the increased grip). very hands off on the miata no watering my tires, or setting air pressures every run. i can say they are pretty much plug and play for a miata or other light cars. lets you have fun and not worry so much.
gripes only complaint is they do not have an audible grip limit, therefor it was easier to get in to a scrub angle. thats what caused the scalloping and probably didn't help with heat cycling. I am no expert though.
if you can buy a extra set of wheels these are almost cheaper than ST class tires with much more grip. so they are the poor mans hoosier. i would imagine c71 compound would wear fast on the concrete but someone should give em a try.

is that 45 runs counting Melody's also? I thought you had much more than that on them.
also, don't forget november was pretty cool out. my tires didn't come in their heat range until the last run of each heat and it reflects in the times. the A6's i was running earlier this year were almost dead silent during understeer, my gorilla driving corded the outsides very quickly, good thing they were take-offs.

mine heated up pretty quickly each time out i was usually within a half second of my fastest on the first run. remember i drive out and home on the tires so there are two heat cycles. plus i drove to and then from work 9 times for a total of 18 or so cycles there. so there are at least 26 more heat cycles on them out side of the runs. I still have plenty of rubber left i think i might have, or i am close to them being cycled out. anyway i am staying on them till they cord.... i am a cheap bastard. going to flip them before the Dec event. they are directional so i have only rotated front to back. rubber wise i think there might be 3 more events on them. i plan on buying a new set for march event so i will be fresh for the dixie south event. with any luck i will have the spec miata suspension on it by then.

Ok, 2002 with AFCO's 450 front 300 rear, RB 1.250 bar in front with the rear disconnected. 215/40/17 AD08 Yoko's.
This car is a daily driver, you will see me running around. (say hi) It is very composed on the street and has great track manners. Road Atlanta, CMP, Roebling, ect.. Works well at the autocross too. I went down tire size last year and regret it the 215's just feel gooey and have a lot of slip angle compared to the 235 Star Specs. I will go back this year. The 17" wheels behave well enough because they are a 14.5 LB wheel tires come in at around 20. So a little heavy but the turbo turns them well.
The alignment is the one listed on M.net the more aggressive one. I don't have a problem with it. It works well for me.
I think the AFCO's have been worth every penny. Car is much faster and rides better than the Bilstiens ever did. The upper mounts allow the car to be low without riding on the stops which helps tons.
The FM brakes firm up the pedal a lot and are very controllable. Never had a fade problem at CMP even with a poor pad choice for the weekend. I can stand on them at turn 10 coming down the hill at Road Atlanta at 145 and they just work.
For the money the RB 1.250 bar is the way to get the car going in the right direction at the autocross. Be sure to order the braces for the mounts.
Not related to suspension but will sure make you go faster.. You cant go wrong with the FM turbo kit. Put it on in a 4 day weekend, didn't have to buy one extra thing that wasn't in the kit and have been giving it hell for about 4 years without one single problem.
Dan you will get a ride when I come by this weekend. hehe
Cjay, how does that 700/400 feel on the street? I am sending my AFCO's in and am thinking of going to a higher rate.

ok so i did the calculations to see haw many revolutions at a minimum my #four rod bearing lasted before it failed. I used car moving engine running only 5th gear on stock wheels multiplied by 178000 miles. there are 1929 revs in 5th rear per km, 1.609 km in a mile (1929x1.609=3103.761 revs per mile) 178000 miles x 3103.761 revolutions =552,469,458 revs. Thats over half a billion revolutions at a minimum, now throw in engine idling, and any other gear than 5th and its likely closer to a billion. Wow have we not come pretty far, imagine a wagon wheel only made it like a thousand miles just a 120 years ago.
